Surgery DQ for military? (Recruiters would be appreciated)?
Hi all.
So basically I have a somewhat embarrassing condition called gynecomastia; it is not too severe but noticeable since I am not overweight. I plan on having surgery the 31st, hoping to avoid receiving and flack or jokes and instead focus on what I hope to get done in the military. It is an elective, cosmetic procedure. (I imagine maybe recruiters have heard of it before, according to some statistics I have seen regarding the condition and new recruits)
What effect will this have on my enlistment in the Army/Navy? The average recovery time is four months.
I am somewhat hesitant discussing it with my recruiter as it is somewhat embarrassing, but I know I need to be truthful to get an accurate picture of the possible consequences.
I figured I would come here to ask first since the recruiters will be gone for the next couple of days for Christmas, hoping someone may have some knowledge to share.
Thanks.
waivers are authorized. whether or not one will be granted… who knows. expect to have to wait at least six months post surgery before you can submit a waiver.
